10 ways to show up for someone with bipolar.

gonna keep this short and sweet.

imagine i call you or see you and i am balling my eyes out, spiralling down and down and down.

here’s how to spiral me back up.

and here’s what not to do so you don’t drag me down.

10 things to do:

  1. act urgently. come over immediately if you can or stay on the phone with me. if you can’t. find someone who can. worst case call the emergency mental health response line which is manned by clinical nurses who can assist.

    • bipolar has a HIGH risk of suicide which i unfortunately can definitely relate to. it is not a joke. do not halter. intrusive thoughts are scary.

    • also listen to your capacity and check in with how you are feeling. if it’s too much to be there for someone who is potentially suicidal, tell them that but follow up by making sure someone else was there. don’t leave them high and dry and assume they have capacity to do it themselves if they look to becoming out of control.
